This Day In History . . . .

It is often noted that the current generation doesn't value it's freedom and privelages because we didn't have to fight for them = => we inherited them.

As history is very important to me, we're going to do a Honestly I - Black Fact every now and again. The Black Fact isn't going to be the same ol repetitious stuff that we typically here in February (Black History Month), it's going to be something I truly didn't know. Enjoy.

Benjamin Banneker
August 19, 1791

Benjamin Banneker writes letter to then secretary of state Thomas Jefferson. The letter showed the hypocrisy of slavery. Banneker challenged the idea of freedom for whites as the ascribed it to be the same freedom that should be granted to Africans.

Live Diary- Oh The Joy

Today, I am over joyed. Last nite I spoke with my big brother Brandon and every doubt disappeared.

I was feeling a bit under the weather physically and emotionally. And he reminded me that I live for the one that died for me not for people.

He exhorted me and it came to me that just because "people" speak their opinions as if they are law, or as if they know- opinions are not law and people are actually clueless.

And I'm not knocking them- but small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, and GREAT minds discuss ideas....one time for a GREATER mind that stops discussing and begins executing.

Fashionably Independent

As a young woman whom has worked in corporate America, has attended a multitude of social functions and is constantly questioned about her wardrobe – I think this topic is the PERFECT place to begin.

Is there a dress code to life?
Or
Is the “dress code” a thing of the past?

Personally, I go to work- but I don’t have “Work Clothes”.

I go to church – but I don’t have a section in my closet labeled “Sundays Best”.

As bad as these hats are....

I don't own one.

I attend social gatherings – but I do not own “Club Clothes”.

In my opinion, dress codes are antiquated and meant to guide the fashionably challenged.

True fashion is timeless...codeless....limitless. Case in point- Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren is a lifestyle brand. There are RL sheets, apparel and frangrances. As well as a brand to suit every budget. The brand does not do trends...think about it..when a multitude of brands were doing things similar to the Ed Hardy style (you know with the Dru Hill dragons and stuff), none of the RL brands participated in that tom foolery. They didn't have to because the polo horseman is timeless and the purple label is limitless.

I dress according to how I feel. If I wake up and feel absolutely beautiful
--> I am putting on a dress. I had a friend that helped me understand it because people would look at me crazy when I explained this. My friend summed it up that we don't do "church clothes" because we don't go to church.....we are the church. And that statement can be applied to my entire wardrobe. Quite frankly, I am fashionably independent and Honestly I don't need you to tell me which colors are in and how or what to wear.

Autumn Must Have

These are on my must have list for the fall.

It's a hidden wedge bootie from Aldo. Really sleek and stylish.

As far as style is concerned, I think simple beats busy by a long shot. I'm not big on brand, more so on comfort, appeal and price. And for $60 these are awesome.
